National Energy Action (NEA) NI

The UK government set out a target, enshrined in the Climate Change Act (2008), to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the whole of the UK by 2050. Decarbonising homes is central to achieving that target and there is an urgent need to address the carbon emissions produced in heating and powering domestic properties. While the electricity powering lighting and appliances is decarbonising fast, the majority of homes still rely on burning fossil fuels for heating, hot water and cooking. This course will provide an introduction to the role domestic scale renewable technologies can play in reducing carbon emissions. It will provide a non-technical explanation of how the technologies work, the factors to consider when installing these technologies, costings, potential carbon savings and their advantages and drawbacks.

This free session will start with lunch at 12.30. About the session: As involvement in formal volunteering decreases and people seek more informal and flexible ways to contribute to their causes, charities need to adjust to this challenge. This requires a little disruptive and creative thinking, to reimagine involvement in the charities in new ways that are attractive to differing audiences. The session will explore the drivers for change, the potential advantages of a more flexible and diverse approach to volunteering and participation. It will encourage charity leaders to imagine whole new ways for people to contribute to their missions. We will explore micro-volunteering, coproduction and how to build communities of interest and boost lifetime value in participation. Chris Wade, Founder and Managing Director, Time for Impact. Chris has an extensive career in the charity sector that spans almost 25 years.
