The Public Health Agency (PHA) was established in April 2009 as part of the reforms to Health and Social Care (HSC) in Northern Ireland.

We are the major regional organisation for health protection and health and social wellbeing improvement. Our role also commits us to addressing the causes and associated inequalities of preventable ill-health and lack of wellbeing. We are a multi-disciplinary, multi-professional body with a strong regional and local presence.

It is for Year 14 pupils, and is an opportunity to find out more about organ donation, a little bit about the science behind it, and to hear about the world class Living Kidney Transplant Programme at Belfast City Hospital.

The organ donation system in Northern Ireland is changing to an opt-out system. This will mean, in the event that organ donation is a possibility after you die, it will be considered all adults agree to being an organ donor unless they choose to opt-out.
