Figures published in 2019 by the Department for Communities and NISRA reveal that there are more than eighteen thousand households registered as homeless across Northern Ireland. Having been successful in securing funding from the Housing Executive’s Homeless Prevention Fund, Belfast Central Mission (BCM) is holding a thought-leadership and information day on Thursday, 12th March, at its Grosvenor House headquarters on Glengall Street in Belfast city centre, to raise awareness and encourage conversation around the escalating issue of homelessness.
To celebrate Shelter NI’s 40th anniversary this year, we are hosting an online panel discussion with the Imagine Belfast Festival of Politics and Ideas on common misconceptions of homelessness, what issues homeless organisations are facing during this time, how they are planning to continue to provide support for homeless people, and most importantly – what you can do to help!
Speaking at the event will be a panel of experienced professionals, from managers of homeless support networks in the UK to those working on the frontlines. If you’d like to find out more, there will be a chance to submit questions at the end in an interactive live format.
To coincide with international day for older people we are offering a one day course focused solely on this group and their housing options and rights.
*This course will be held online*
This course aims to increase understanding of the processes required to get an adaptation within a clients’ home.
The session will cover different areas of housing – social rented, private rented and owner occupier, and will discuss the steps followed, depending on the type of adaptation required. It will also cover the different grants available to private rented tenants and home-owners for certain adaptations.
