#10 years #20 years: A celebration and conversation with Dr Peter Vermeulen 5th September 2024, 12pm-2pm A celebration of supporting the autistic community and employers for 10 years in N Ireland and for 20 years across the world, in conversation with Dr Peter Vermeulen. Dr. Peter Vermeulen, PhD in Psychology and Clinical Educational Sciences, has more than 35 years of experience in the field of autism. Peter is an internationally respected lecturer, and he presents all over the world. Peter wrote more than 15 books and several articles on autism, some of them translated into more than 10 languages. For his +30 years of work in the field of autism, he received in 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award for his more than 30 years contribution to the autism community in Belgium.

This qualification provides learners with knowledge and skills to apply reliable, evidence-based nutritional science and healthy eating recommendations. Learners will gain an understanding of nutritional science and their application to exercise, sport and athletic performance. This includes the limitations and risks of supplements and performance aids, and the importance of hydration for sports performance. Working within their scope of practice, learners will be able to support their clients in their understanding of the relevance of official guidelines to personal food preferences and needs, including for health and wellbeing, weight management and sports performance.

This course is aimed at individuals who recruit, manage or supervise staff and volunteers working with children and/or adults. It will examine the procedures that need to be put in place for effective recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers including requirements under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order, the current and former definitions of regulated activity and how to exercise careful judgement when assessing information on an Access NI Disclosure Certificate. It will also look at the procedures required for the effective management of staff and volunteers including induction and training, breach of code of behaviour and referral to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

It will cover: Knowledge of the legal context of safeguarding children; An understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Designated Officer; Knowledge of Health and Social Care Trust structures and processes; and Exploration of issues and concerns around referrals and sharing information. All participants must have completed a safeguarding children awareness raising course prior to attending. Keeping Children Safe: Training for Staff and Volunteers is a suitable foundation course.

This is a face to face training in Belfast. This session will develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of office bearers and trustee members, and help them to understand their roles and responsibilities as chair, secretary and treasurer. It will help them understand the importance of a clear decision-making process and succession planning, and the importance of working in partnership in order to build influence and ensure the voice of volunteers is heard.
