The pressure to be perfect, to design and sculpt our bodies into someone other than ourselves has never been greater. Social media has created the impossibility of being unseen and so fuels the comparison between self and others on a global scale. Explored from a Psychodynamic perspective we will examine the relationship we have with our bodies and how this relationship mirrors our sense of self and is used to measure and determine our self-worth.
Loneliness is an emotional response to perceived isolation. It is a lack of connection and intimacy and we can feel lonely even when around others. We deny it; we run from it; we fear it.
Explored from a psychodynamic perspective we will examine this social emotion and how as a relational species the presence of loneliness triggers feelings of shame, fear, loss, rejection, and abandonment and an identity crisis.
This complex and frequently misunderstood condition will be explored from within a Psychodynamic Perspective. This ‘pathological need to be a victim’ will be examined within Object Relations and Attachment theories to shed light on a disorder that can lead to mutilation, amputation and death.

You are invited to join us for the closing celebration of the Need to Talk Project.
Launched in 2017, the Need to Talk project is coming to a close. RNIB and NCBI (National Council of Blind Ireland) want to invite those who helped deliver the project, fund the project and who took part in the project, to come together to look at the highlights and success of the initiative and to celebrate its legacy.
The event will take place on Thursday, 28 September in the Clayton Hotel, Belfast. Starting at 11am, speakers will include representatives of the project, as well as participants and recipients of the Need to Talk counselling and confidence building courses. The event will conclude at 1pm with lunch.
We would like to welcome as many Need to Talk participants as we can; people who availed of the counselling service or took part in the many Living Well With Sight Loss courses.
We would also like to invite anyone with an interest in mental health and counselling.
