Samaritans provide confidential emotional support by telephone, email, face-to-face, text message and letter. We work with other organistions to raise awareness of emotional health, reach out to at risk groups and engage with policy makers.

"Talk to us any time you like, in your own way, and off the record – about whatever’s getting to you. You don’t have to be suicidal."

Samaritans is a charity whose core service is to provide confidential emotional support by telephone, email, face-to-face, text message and letter.

Volunteers man our helplines round the clock, every single day of year, as well as running our range of local outreach programmes.

We work with schools, colleges and universities, the media, workplaces, health & welfare services, homeless shelters, prisons and other charities.
We also promote awareness of our service at local community events and public festivals.

Our emotional support helpline is 08457 90 90 90 and by email [email protected]

For administration and enquiries relating to the charity's work in Northern Ireland please contact [email protected]

In Northern Ireland we have 750 volunteers across 8 branches in: Ballymena, Bangor, Belfast, Coleraine, Derry, Newry, Portadown and Omagh.

Samaritans has 205 volunteers for every paid member of staff. The UK national average volunteer/staff ratio for a voluntary organisation is 24:1.
