Community Support assists newly released prisoners to avoid re-offending and improve their self-confidence through support and encouragement.
We meet prisoners pre-release so that we can get to know them, and they can get to know us. When they are released we meet them about once a week for a cup of coffee and a chat to give them encouragement and support.
People leaving prison face multiple challenges in linking with family and friends, getting jobs, managing money, often dealing with addictions, and getting proper medical support.
All our volunteers are given training and on-going support through peer-support meetings, and by meeting with a designated support person.
We ask volunteers to commit to approximately half a day a week for at least two years. Obviously there are times in the year when people are not available because of holidays etc.
