The Centre for Public History at Queen's hosts the monthly Last Fridays Seminar Series at which invited speakers from organisations and universities across the UK, Ireland, and globally share their latest research in the field of heritage and public history. We also host regular one-off workshops and symposia which focus on specific themes.
Each December we host an annual conference and the Annual Keith Jeffery Lecture in Public History, an event which is open to the public. Former speakers have included Jock Phillips, former Chief Historian to the New Zealand government and Conceptual Lead on the Te Papa Museum of New Zealand, and Deborah Mack, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.
We also run an MA in Public History which trains students in the theory and practice of how History is put to work in the public sphere. Each year our students take placements with partners in the museums, arts and cultural sectors, heritage, archives and community.
