Trainer/Mentor

Delivery of Training and mentoring support as part of the delivery of a user-led training and development programme for young people with disabilities in Cookstown and throughout Mid Ulster.

Summary of Role

Essential to this role is a passion for transforming the lives of people with learning disabilities.  You will be motivated to provide a dynamic, varied and all-ability programme of training and leisure activities. As the Trainer/Mentor, you will work closely with the Project coordinator to plan, budget, execute, oversee and document all aspects of the project in consultation with the members Steering Group. You will also help to make sure that the scope and direction of each aspect of the project is within the ethos of Superstars, is on schedule, and within budget as well as provide assistance with enlisting and managing a team of volunteers to assist in the success of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To engage young people with learning difficulties through outreach into schools, colleges, adult centres, etc.
  • To establish relationships of trust and mutual respect with young people and offer them support and encouragement and training.
  • To work in partnership with young people to co-design personal learning action plans and assist them to express and realise their full potential.
  • To organise and facilitate training programmes, as required.
  • To collaborate with partners in schools, groups, etc.
  • To support the Project Coordinator in promoting and marketing the Empowering Young People programme.
  • To carry out any administration duties necessary to the project.
  • Work flexibly on evenings, weekends, etc to ensure the full delivery of the programme.
  • Work with due regard to the ethos of Superstars.
  • Ensure completion of training and development records.
  • To assist Project Coordinator recruit, manage and train a panel of volunteers, and ensure adequate support is available for every group, individual
  • To facilitate AccessNI checks for all volunteers and staff.
  • To adhere to and maintain, good working knowledge of the policies, procedures and regulations governing the organisation.

Superstars, Empowering Young People, is funded by the Lottery Community Fund to develop and deliver a programme that identifies the best ways of maximising the potential in young people with learning difficulties.

This is an interesting and varied role so the post holder will need to have a flexible approach to work and project delivery and be able to attend evening and weekend activities as required.

The post holder will be required to be flexible to the changing needs of the organisation and as such undertake tasks and responsibilities not specifically listed here but are relevant to the smooth running of Superstars. This will include general administrative duties and all aspects of service delivery as directed by the Management Committee.
