Ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of scheduled training offered to College staff and specific to the technology applications that make up the College’s ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ (VLE).

PURPOSE OF POST:   

The IT Trainer is responsible for ensuring that, across the College, academic and support staff are able to demonstrate competency (to a defined level) in the application of specific VLE and required IT based technology; both within the training environment and subsequently in their day-to-day job.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training & Monitoring of Training

Planning

  • Conduct organisation wide needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
  • Map out training plans, design and develop in-house training programmes
  • Market available training opportunities to College staff (Academic and Support) and provide necessary course information

Development & Delivery

  • Design and produce training materials in line with Centre for Excellence methodologies and protocols
  • Design and prepare educational aids and materials to support academic staff as requested
  • Facilitate learning through a variety of delivery methods including face to face classroom instruction, virtual training, on-the-job coaching etc.
  • Produce and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans and all necessary training material specific to each course
  • Provide train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts
  • Design and produce training materials to underpin the delivery of the OCN NI Level 3 Award and Certificate in in Digital Skills for Educators for delivery to college academic staff
  • Assist in the delivery of the OCN NI Level 3 Award and Certificate in in Digital Skills for Educators to college academic staff
  • Manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track and report on training outcomes
  • Design and apply assessment tools to measure training effectiveness 
  • Produce evaluation reports determining the impact of training on staff skills and how it affects College strategic framework objectives

Programme Activities

  • Partner with internal stakeholders and liaise with matter experts regarding instructional design
  • Maintain updated curriculum database and training records
  • Work with HR colleagues to ensure competency based training updates staff training records
  • Manage and be responsible for Technology & Learning HUB technical equipment including the centres laptops

General

  • To promote, implement and ensure compliance with all College policies and procedures, in particular, maintaining a safe and healthy training environment by following relevant College Health and Safety procedures.
  • To lead the School’s contribution to the achievement of the College’s mission, values and strategic directions.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy training environment by following related College policies and procedures
  • Participate actively in relevant regional and national professional networks
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications etc.
  • To deputise for TEL Manager, at relevant TEL events/conferences as required
  • Participate in College developments, attend internal and external meetings and training programmes required
  • Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in College policies
  • To implement and embed the College’s equality and diversity policies and respond to its equality and diversity duties as they relate to all stakeholders.
  • Act, if directed as fire marshal or warden
  • Carry out, if directed, the role of first aider
  • To undertake such other relevant duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder.
