To be responsible for the development and daily operations of the hair and beauty salons and clinics at Titanic Quarter on a commercial basis in line with HABIA requirements.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Supervision of hair and beauty technicians
  • To be responsible for the development of a commercially viable hair and beauty salon for the college which complies with best practice, all HABIA and health and safety legislation.
  • To be responsible for the daily operation of hairdressing and beauty therapy by:
    • Scheduling appointments and overseeing reception.
    • Oversee the appointments salon website.
    • Managing the hair and beauty activities including the sales outlet.
    • Providing a realistic work environment at commercially suitable times, including Saturday.
    • Provide assessment opportunities for Training Programme students.
    • Organise/liaise with technical staff/materials orders/maintain stores/ equipment.
    • Manage the Stock control system.
    • Manage the spa area operation, and monitor checks and compliance with environmental health
  • To agree and record an assessment plan with candidates.
  • To use a range of assessment methods, appropriate to the needs of individual candidates.
  • To provide candidates with prompt, accurate and constructive review and feedback during the assessment process.
  • To maintain comprehensive records of candidate assessments.
  • To complete all appropriate documentation required by the Assessment Centre and the awarding body.
  • To support candidates in portfolio building in accordance with programme time table.
  • To ensure remedial action is taken where necessary to amend assessment plan with individual candidates.
  • To provide one-to-one support to candidates who have been slow to progress in order to facilitate successful completion of the Award.
  • To attend assessor and standardisation meetings as required.
  • To ensure that professional competence is maintained and regularly review legislation, guidelines, policies etc. to ensure that National Occupational Standards are met at all times.
  • To identify and assess risk as part of the risk management team.
  • Undertake other appropriate duties in relation to other College activities, such as marketing, recruitment of students, invigilation etc.

 

Resource Management

 

  • To ensure ongoing Awarding Body registration is achieved to provide consistent quality of service and be responsible for preparation for inspections and action any recommendations that may result from inspection to ensure that the salon is run in accordance with appropriate requirements.
  • To undertake the daily management of the salons and clinics to ensure that high standards are developed and maintained throughout.
  • To participate in the recruitment and selection of placement and intern staff making sure that those appointed are qualified and possess the skills required to work in the salon or clinic.
  • To organise adequate staffing, and maintain appropriate staffing ratios.
  • To keep accurate financial records to ensure that the College’s financial procedures are adhered to and that income and expenditure are kept within budget. These include budget setting, preparing bills, raising orders etc. Oversee the purchase and maintenance of apparatus etc. to ensure the salon is suitably equipped within the allocated budget and maintain up to date records of resources.
  • To liaise with the CAM/HOS/Finance regarding all the operational and financial planning for the hair and beauty operations within College guidelines.
  • To support staff in the development and maintenance of appropriate planning, observation and assessment procedures to ensure a consistent service and develop, with staff, a recording system for individual students.
  • To supervise and provide advice, guidance and training to students, trainees and others on work placements or work experience in order that they receive the appropriate support and guidance
  • To develop relationships with external agencies and professionals to ensure industrial liaison is maintained.
  • To develop, implement and review the policies, procedures and practices of the salons and clinics.

 

General

 

  • Supervision of technician activities to ensure smooth operation of 2 hair salons, 4 beauty salons a Spa facilities in Titanic Quarter, associated curriculum delivery facilities and hair and beauty operations in Castlereagh, Titanic Quarter or other College sites.
  • To ensure the effective application of health and safety procedures for all staff and learners within the Faculty.
  • To lead the salons’ contribution to the achievement of the College’s mission, values and strategic directions.
  • To represent the College as necessary at national, regional and local level to ensure its effective promotion as a world class organisation.
  • To participate actively in relevant regional and national professional networks
  • To deputise as required.
  • To participate in relevant staff development/training programmes/CPD as required.
  • To coordinate the interaction with support departments including, marketing, MIS, HR and Estates to ensure the effective operation of academic requirements with the faculty and site.
  • To act, if directed, as Fire Marshall or Fire Warden.
  • To carry out, if directed, the role of First Aider (subject to College policy & procedures).
  • To promote, implement and ensure compliance with all statutory obligations and College policies and procedures in particular the College’s Equality Scheme and Equal Opportunities Policy and actively promote equality and good relations in all aspects of college business.
