About CAUSE

CAUSE is Northern Ireland’s only peer-lead, independent advocacy organisation solely dedicated to supporting families, partners and friends who care for someone living with serious mental illness.

We provide a vital lifeline to carers through:

• One-to-one independent carer advocacy

• Peer-lead support groups

• Psychosocial education and training

• Policy development and influencing

Our work is grounded in the belief that carers deserve recognition, respect and robust support. We empower unpaid carers to advocate for their loved ones, maintain their own wellbeing and recognise their strength and value.

Join Our Board

We are currently seeking Voluntary Board Members to help guide and strengthen our work. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about mental health, carer empowerment and strong governance, and who are aligned with CAUSE’s values, mission and vision.

Who We’re Looking For

To complement our existing expertise, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Human Resources – HR strategy, organisational development, workplace culture

• Legal or Compliance – charity law, regulatory frameworks, risk management

• Leadership & Strategy – especially within health, social care or the voluntary/community sectors

• Fundraising – experience with trusts, major donors or corporate partnerships

• Mental Health Care – clinical or community-based experience supporting families

• Academic, Policy or Research – particularly related to mental health or social care

• Lived Experience – those who have cared for someone with serious mental illness. We are committed to ensuring that at least 60% of our Board comprises individuals with lived experience.
