The Glen Development Initiative (GDI) mission is to be ‘a gathering place for art, education, recreation and community development’. We achieve this through a partnership with local people, community organisations, statutory agencies and businesses.

GDI primary objective of the is to “improve the general area of the Greater Glen Area of Derry City”. GDI believes in the power of community to support the individual, and in the power of the individual to support the community. We achieve this through a partnership with local people, community organisations, statutory agencies and businesses. We meet and work with these bodies through our own programmes and as leading partners in Physical and Economic Renewal for the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership. GDI was established in 2005 and based in a 1970’s Derry City Council building (Glenview Community Centre) that we manage on behalf of Council. We have an annual throughput of 17,534 people and serve over 3,214 unique individuals per year through programmes designed to bring people together across traditional divides. Our diverse programmes include education, skills, health, disability, family, arts, cultural, youth, sport, recreation, community safety, environmental and community events that engage and energise the community with intentional and purposeful inclusion. We provide a base to 22 Community Groups and offer rental space to several private groups/people. We also partner with many other community/statutory agencies for broad combinations of programmes and purpose such as the Education Authority NI, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, the North-West College and the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership.
