Bangor Alternatives is a government accredited restorative justice organisation working across Ards and North Down.

Bangor Alternatives was established in 2005 as a community based restorative programme working with the Ards and North Down area to address issues of community conflict with a focus on paramilitary attacks. It emerged from the centrally co-ordinating organisation, Northern Ireland Alternatives, which has been operational since 1997.

Northern Ireland Alternatives is the umbrella body that provides support, training, governance, fundraising and financial management to the 5 offices based in Shankill; North Belfast; East Belfast; South Belfast and North Down.  All of these sites use a range of restorative methodologies such as mediation; restorative conferencing; negotiation; community safety approaches; youth intervention and intensive support. Alternatives aims to build relationships not only within communities but also between statutory agencies and local communities to ensure communities are safer places to live.
