Is your charity prepared for a PR crisis?

Hear from one of Northern Ireland’s leading PR experts on how to protect the reputation of your charity in the event of a crisis, at the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s annual public meeting 2018.

A former editor of the Irish News and deputy editor of the Belfast Telegraph, Nick Garbutt will be guest speaker at the regulator’s public meeting on Monday 15 October 2018, speaking on the topic When Things Go Wrong

Chief Charity Commissioner, Tom McGrath, commented: “Charities can use social media and other awareness raising forums to huge benefit – raising much needed donations, educating the public and reaching new beneficiaries.

“However, a negative story can also go viral in a matter of hours, often with devastating consequences, including a sudden drop in funds and supporters, ultimately impacting on the charity’s beneficiaries.

“With reputation a core issue for many charities, we are delighted to have secured Nick as our guest speaker and look forward to hearing his expert advice on how to manage your charity’s reputation should things go wrong.”

The Commission’s public meeting will also provide an opportunity to find out more about the work of the regulator over the past financial year, as well as share your views on proposals contained within the Commission’s draft Strategic Plan 2019-22.

With resources likely to be cut in real terms over the next few years, the Commission has developed new proposals for its future development, with the public meeting providing an opportunity comment on the draft plans.

Notes to editors

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is the independent regulator of charities in Northern Ireland, established under the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

A non-departmental public body, the Commission is sponsored by the Department for Communities and has a number of legal functions where it uses powers similar to those of the High Court.
