Into the woods, for a fairy-tale evening
Families and friends are invited to venture deep into the forest for a magical evening with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and James Corden.
It’s Into the Woods, a lively musical, and it’s an outdoor screening at the Woodland Trust’s Brackfield Wood, not far from the city of Derry/Londonderry, on Friday 26 August.
With witch’s spells, glass slippers, a big bad wolf and more, this film is a cocktail of our best-loved fairy tales.
Michelle McCaughtry is the Woodland Trust’s people engagement officer and says: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see this family favourite in a totally different light. We’ll be outdoors, on a summer’s evening, and in the most beautiful of settings. And as the characters embark upon their magical woodland adventures, we will – in a sense – be right there with them.
“We’ve had thousands of individuals, schools and groups visit this special woodland by daytime. This time, we’ll be arriving at sunset and sitting under a canopy of stars.”
Brackfield Wood, by the banks of the stunning River Faughan, is one of just four flagships woods being created across the UK to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War. In contrast to the sadness of war, Brackfield is a place of flourishing beauty and tranquillity, and a much-needed haven for wildlife.
Into the Woods (PG) awaits moviegoers on Friday 26 August, with screening beginning at 8.30pm. A free shuttle bus is available from nearby Brackfield Bawn. Admission is £5 per adult and £2 per child, with proceeds supporting the work of the Woodland Trust. Refreshments can be purchased on the evening. Bring a torch; a rug or seat; and a picnic if you wish (but please don’t leave any litter).
Booking is essential, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. To find out more and to book a place: visit www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/events or call 0330 333 5302.
