Wetland Wildlife Weekend

want to have a bit of family fun but learn something crucial about the world around you at the same time? Then join us this weekend as we are hosting two days of fun talks. Come and meet a collection of reptiles, amphibians and creepy crawlies.

The Key objective of World Wetlands Day 2013 is to raise people’s awareness of the interdependence between water and wetlands, to highlight ways to ensure the fair sharing of water between different stakeholder groups and to understand that without wetlands there will be no water. The theme for World Wetlands Day 2013 is Wetlands and Water Management . Ramsar has always had the nexus of water, people and wetlands at its core. Wetlands make up a resource of great socio-economic, cultural and scientific value, and their loss would be irreparable. Wetlands deliver essential eco-system services, or the benefits people obtain from nature,  including acting as regulators and providers of water. Thus water management  and the  “wise use of wetlands” are inextricably linked.

So want to have a bit of family fun but learn something crucial about the world around you at the same time? Then join us this weekend as we are hosting two days of fun talks along the lines of the BBC Christmas lectures. Come with the family and interact with science to discover the 6 secrets of wetlands and explore questions such as ‘What wetland plant feeds more than 3 billion people every year?’ – ‘Why does there seem to be more flooding incidents every year?’ –‘Why do we need clean wetlands to survive as a species?’ and many more.  Lectures take place at 12pm and 3pm each day. Pre-booking is essential as places are limited. Please call reception on 02890 874146 or email [email protected]

Come and meet a collection of  reptiles, amphibians and creepy crawlies and learn about their bodies, lifecycles, and adaptations. 11am  - 4pm
