Water bill tariff increase: How businesses could save money by ensuring bills are accurate

Following Northern Ireland Water’s tariff increase, effective yesterday (1 October 2020), The Consumer Council is reminding businesses across the country to ensure that their water bills are accurate to avoid nasty surprises and to save money.

Graham Smith, Head of Water at The Consumer Council, said: “Given the tariff increase, which will increase costs for businesses across the country, it is the perfect time for business owners to ensure that their water bills are accurate.

“By paying particular attention to certain areas of their water bills when checking them, businesses can avoid nasty surprises and could even save money, which would be welcome following the impact of COVID-19.

“To make this process as easy as possible, we have created a quick and educational animated video with visual examples, which in under two minutes, will guide businesses through what to look for on their water bill. The video is available on our YouTube channel.

“Our useful booklet, ‘Water Guide for Businesses and Not-For-Profit Organisations’, also gives further tips and advice on water bills, water efficiency, how to complain and more. This guide can be downloaded for free on our website.”

Graham added: “Our expert team is also offering free Water Bill Health Checks, which have helped businesses to save almost £200k in the last two years. These checks will ensure that businesses are being correctly and will help identify opportunities to save money.”
