VOTE FOR US - Help the older generation access technology

Look at what technology inspires amongst the youth, and imagine what it will inspire in our older generations. We have a vision of drop-in Technology Support Clinics all over Northern Ireland, where older people can be assured they are getting independent and impartial advice on their technology needs. Within these clinics the needs of the older person will come first, not the latest piece of kit or newest craze. We will empower older people to find the right solution to any computer, internet or mobile issue regardless of budget. We will provide this advice impartially, patiently, and free-of-charge. This will result in a generational impact, and a shift in attitude: engaging older people meaningfully, with knowledge and information that makes them digitally included for life.

Why do we think this is service is needed? Because the older people have told us so. Advice NI currently has a range of services that supports older people get access to what they need: We engage over 120 older people each year in digital learning programs. We know older people’s needs and want to meet them better. Technology Support Clinics will operate on a planned day, in a local area reaching over 700 older people. The day will be facilitated by a group of staff and volunteers. The older person will be able to turn up, get a ticket for a timeslot (like they do for example in some post offices) and one person’s undivided attention to help develop their mobile road map and answer their questions on all things digital – from reducing spam email, to getting advice on the best internet provider for their needs. For those waiting for face-to-face support, there will be plenty to keep them occupied. We will have a trained adviser at each clinic who will offer benefit advice and signposting; support on how to use relevant Advice NI websites (popni.net and rights4seniors.net).
