Trust launching Social Innovation Research

In 2012 the Trust commissioned RSM McClure Watters and The Young Foundation to carry out research into Social Innovation in Northern Ireland.

Employing a wide range of research techniques including workshops, seminars, interviews and desk research, they considered what we mean by Social Innovation in the Northern Ireland Community and Voluntary Sector and, crucially, what needs to be done to support and develop it.

Nigel McKinney, Building Change Trust Administrator, said: The Trust has identified Social Innovation as a key theme of its work for the coming 5 years and will be allocating substantial resources to it.

“We are pleased to extend an open invite to those involved with the NI community and voluntary sector, the statutory sector , private sector and others to join with us on Friday 12 April to hear the findings of the research and to help us further develop a detailed strategy for supporting Social Innovation in Northern Ireland.

“Social Innovation is defined as innovative activities and services that are motivated by the goal of meeting a social need and that are predominantly developed and diffused through organisations whose primary purposes are social.

“We want to figure out what this means for Northern Ireland’s Community and Voluntary Sector”.

The event will take place at Crumlin Road Gaol on Friday 12 April from 9.30am until 1.15pm, finishing with lunch.
