Snow Patrol Frontman Gary Lightbody to speak at TEDxStormont

TEDxStormont, an independently organised TEDx event has been launched and announced Gary Lightbody from the multi-million album selling band Snow Patrol as one of the speakers for the event, which will take place on 28th March in Parliament Buildings.

Organised along the theme of “imagine” TEDxStormont will feature leading thinkers and doers representing such diverse fields as technology, science, entertainment, visual and performance art, politics, music and education among others.

Speakers will look forward and imagine the kind of future we could have together as a society, here in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Gary Lightbody, frontman of band Snow Patrol said:

“I’m a huge fan of TED and I’m honoured to be asked to speak at TEDxStormont. TEDx is a globally respected concept and fosters great innovation through the people it provides a platform to. I’m in a cast of quite awe inspiring individuals and truly looking forward to it”.

TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to ‘ideas worth spreading’. Started as a four day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for up to 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available free at TED.com.

Speaking on the launch of TEDxStormont, the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA added:

“I am keen that Parliament Buildings is opened up for all of the people of Northern Ireland, but also connected globally.

What better way than to bring together a mix of our very own and other highly respected leaders from various professions and callings to think out loud, tell us their story and share ideas worth spreading.

The TEDxStormont event here at Parliament Buildings will prove to be an exciting and interesting spectacle”.

In November 2012, TED surpassed a billion video views. TED Talks are being viewed at a rate of 1.5 million times a day — which means that a new viewing commences 17 times a second.

Other speakers will be announced throughout the week.

A limited number of tickets are available to purchase from the TEDxStormont website launched today at www.tedxstormont.com. The official Twitter account is @tedxstormont and the official Facebook page is www.facebook.com/TEDxStormont
