Reading and Writing for Peace Project

Charmain Jones, Good Relations Officer at RCN has been approached from Leon Litvack, Queen's University Belfast to run a creative peace-building programme in the Mid Tyrone area. It is proposed that the programme will take place December of January.

The project would include:

  • Two reading and writing workshops, facilitated by specialists in writing (2 hours each).  Participants will learn about the Peace Palace and the works of Northern Irish writers (Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley etc) on the theme of peace and reconciliation.  Participants will get an opportunity to write their own peace of poetry exploring what peace means to them
  • After the completion of workshops, work of the participants will be performed at a public event in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry, with a post show discussion

This is an extremely innovative and creative community relations project, therefore RCN are having an open call for those wishing to participate.  Queen's University are particularly keen to see participation from those in the 16-25 age bracket.

Spaces are limited to 10 for this event and will be on a first come, first served basis.   The workhops will take place at the offices of RCN, 38a Oldtown Street, Cookstown, BT80 8EF

If you would like to avail of this exciting opportunity, contact Charmain at Rural Communtiy Network - [email protected] or telephone 028 8676 6670.
