With just one year to go until Northern Ireland’s 11 new councils take over, Environment Minister Mark H Durkan is getting the word out about local government reform.

Over the next two weeks, Department of the Environment leaflets will be dropping through the doors of all households with information about the new councils which the public will vote for in the 22 May local government elections.  Following the elections the new councils will operate behind the scenes in shadow form until taking over from the current councils on 1 April 2015.
