NSPCC £1 million appeal to ‘change childhoods’

NSPCC Northern Ireland has unveiled its new facility in Belfast with an ambitious appeal to raise £1million over three years to support ground-breaking local services.

Launching the ‘Changing Childhoods’ appeal, Paul Leighton, chair of the fundraising board, said that the children’s charity is embarking on an “exciting journey”:

“While £1 million is a significant target, we are confident that with public support, and our continuing enthusiasm and commitment, it is totally achievable.

“This appeal is driven by need – the need that NSPCC has identified within our communities. By funding cutting edge child protection services, we will be able to help support some of the most vulnerable children and families in the greaterBelfastarea.

“Areas of work in the new centre will include programmes for children whose parents have serious mental health problems, supporting families who are struggling with parenting, and working with fathers who have been violent to their partners or children.

“The NSPCC makes a huge difference to the lives of children here and across theUK, and this new centre and funds raised through our appeal will help the charity continue pioneering new ways to address the child protection problems facing local children.”

Guests at the event had the opportunity to meet the NSPCC team and hear about the new services being provided locally. The NSPCC’s Service Centre inBelfastoffers a wide range of facilities to help children and families feel at ease. It has been designed with children in mind and provides a safe, colourful and comfortable environment, including fully equipped and confidential counselling rooms.
