Newry Musical Society presents Guys and Dolls

Touch of Glamour in Newry Town Hall as Newry Musical Society presents Guys and Dolls

A touch of 1940’s glamour reaches Newry Town Hall later this month as Newry Musical Society stage their version of the seminal Broadway classic, Guys and Dolls. Guys and Dolls tells the story of a gang of gamblers and the women who long to tame them. Set in the colourful world of New York City in the mid 20th century, the romantic and funny “Guys and Dolls” is populated with gangsters and gamblers, saints and sinners and features many well known songs such as “Luck Be A Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat”.

From the open auditions back in February, a stellar cast has been formed for what promises to be a lively and exciting show – one which is a first for the local society. In his first leading role with the society, Camlough native, James McGinn will play the role of Sky Masterson alongside the wonderfully talented Fiona Flynn. Fiona plays Salvation Army member, Sarah Brown, who becomes the unlikely love interest for James’ Sky. Taking on the role of the scheming Nathan Detroit, Martin Morgan is fast becoming a regular on the Newry stage after only joining the society last year. Nathan is accompanied on stage by his long-suffering fiancée, Miss Adelaide played by Ciara McParland, who is also no stranger to treading the Newry boards. The supporting characters are played by Dennis Walsh, Eithne Bell, Jim McGuigan, Ronan Sharkey and John Heatley. A strong chorus of gamblers, dancers and band members complete the cast.

The show is once again directed by David Cunningham and choreographed by his daughter, Lisa Cunningham. This talented duo are joined by Gerry Doherty who returns as musical director.

Newry Musical Society invite you to dust off the trilbies, shine up those spats, fluff the feather boas and see if Luck will be a Lady for you! The show runs from Tuesday 21st May – Friday 24th May in Newry Town Hall at 7.30pm. The booking office is now open in Buttercrane Shopping Centre or by calling 07707 072010.
