New Youth Academy coming to Newry

A new opportunity for young people aged 16-30 to develop their employability skills and gain a qualification is coming to Newry. The Prince’s Trust Youth Academy will be taking place in the Magnet Young Adult Centre for eight weeks from 9th March.

During this personal development and employability programme young people will have the opportunity to improve their CV, develop their confidence and gain a level 2 Prince’s Trust Award. The group will also work on a community project and go on day trips to Dublin and Belfast.

Nathan McAuley, Operations Manager for the Newry, Mourne and Down area at Prince’s Trust said: “We can’t wait to bring this new programme to the Newry area. It is an excellent opportunity for young people who aren’t sure of their next steps to try something different. Not only will they meet new people and develop their confidence, but they will also have the opportunity to take part in a community project and gain a qualification which will be great for their CV.”

The Prince’s Trust Youth Academy is a joint project with Innovate Dublin. It is part funded through the Northern Ireland European Social Fund Programme 2014 – 2020, the Department for the Economy and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The programme runs in the Magnet Young Adult Centre from Monday 9th March – Wednesday 9th May for three days each week and there is a taster day on Wednesday 4th March for people to find out more. Taking part in the programme does not affect your benefits, childcare costs and travel expenses are paid on programme.
