Mud Madness cleans up for Marie Curie

The call is out to splash and make cash for next year’s McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness, Northern Ireland’s messiest “off-road” challenge.

The call is out to splash and make cash for next year’s  McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness, Northern Ireland’s messiest “off-road” challenge, which is holding four events across two days in April next year,  after it was revealed that a massive £46,000 was raised by the events  in 2015 alone for the charity Marie Curie.

Over the past four years, £120,000 has been raised by McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes.  The twice-yearly event is one of the most popular and talked about adventure experiences, which supports Marie Curie nurses working night and day, in people’s homes across Northern Ireland and in their Belfast Hospice offering vital emotional support specialist round-the-clock care.

Children aged six to 11 years old can enter the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mini Mud Madness on Saturday April 16th at 5pm, with a second event for 12-16 year olds taking place at 5.45pm. For participants over 16, there are two events on Sunday 17th April at 11am and 2pm, with all four challenges guaranteed to generate loads of muck and mayhem for the hundreds of participants expected to enter, which involves walking, running, falling, wading and diving through obstacles with varying degrees of mud-soaked fun.

Tim McAuley from McVitie’s, says the company is proud to be supporting the work done by Marie Curie here.

“Marie Curie provide a crucial service to families here, and we’re delighted to be able to help raise vital funds so they can continue to help those facing a terminal illness. McVitie’s Jaffa Cake Mud Madness is always a great adventure for all ages, and we’re really looking forward to April when the four challenges in total across two messy, mud-splattered days will allow every age and ability to have great fun.”

Organiser Johnny Davis says kids and adults alike will have a fantastic time at the event, which takes place at Foymore Lodge in Portadown.

“Kids will now have their own day to get as mucky as they like, with the addition of two Mini Mud Madness events, and adults also have two opportunities to enjoy the fun on day two of next year’s event while raising much needed funds for Marie Curie!”

Anne Hannon from Marie Curie says it’s a unique and fun way to support the work of the charity;

“Fundraising is a constant challenge for organisations like Marie Curie, but thanks to the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness, this is one of the most fun and unique ways to make a difference.

“This is a fantastic day out that’s talked about months before it takes place, and for a long time afterwards by the competitors who take part year after year. We’re delighted to be working with McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Mud Madness and Mini Mud Madness again next year and would like to thank them for all their support.”
