Mayor's Awards for Volunteering 2014

Do you know someone who gives up their time to help others, without looking for recognition or reward? The Mayor’s Awards for Volunteering is asking for your nominations for outstanding volunteers throughout the Borough of Castlereagh.

The Mayor’s Awards for Volunteering was established in 2012 by Castlereagh Borough Council and this year, in partnership with Volunteer Now and the South Eastern Education and Library Board, the Awards scheme is looking forward to a big increase in nominations. Not only will you get the ‘feel good factor’ from nominating someone, you’ll also have a chance to attend a glittering awards ceremony later this year and celebrate with the worthy winners.

Speaking at the launch of the awards, the Mayor of Castlereagh, Councillor David Drysdale said:

“All of us will know individuals and organisations who operate without looking for reward or recognition, who have their neighbours and local communities at the centre of everything they do and who work tirelessly to improve the lives of others and local communities.

These individuals may have been volunteering for many years or may be new to the volunteering scene, either way their efforts deserve recognition. The Mayor’s Awards for Volunteering is now in its third year and we hope to see an increase in the number and variety of nominations from across the Borough.

The awards will celebrate the tremendous efforts of individuals and groups who give up their time freely and I would encourage everyone to nominate an individual or group whose efforts might otherwise go unnoticed.”

The 2014 Awards will recognise individuals and groups under the following categories:

Unsung Hero
Long Service Commitment
Bringing Communities Together
Volunteer Team of the Year
Best Newcomer
Best Neighbour

Nominations may be submitted for recognition under any of the six award categories and are invited from members of the public, including representatives from community, voluntary and statutory organisations.

Nominations must be made in writing using the scheme nomination form, which is available to download at castlereagh.gov.uk/communityservices - or click here to go directly to the page.  Alternatively forms can be obtained by contacting Community Services on 028 9049 4500 or emailing [email protected].

Closing date for completed nominations is 4pm Friday 11 April 2014, so don’t delay, nominate your local volunteering star today!
