Lidl Northern Ireland is calling on sports clubs across the country to volunteer their support to those who need it during the Covid-19 pandemic with the launch of their #LidlLegends competition. Starting May 20th, you can nominate members of your local sports clubs for their outstanding volunteer work in your community by simply using the hashtag #LidlLegends and tagging Lidl Northern Ireland’s Twitter (@lidl_ni) / Instagram (@lidlni) or by commenting with your entry on the competition announcement post on Lidl Northern Ireland’s Facebook page.

The overall winner of the competition will win £500 worth of equipment for their local club as well as a £100 Lidl Northern Ireland voucher in recognition of their commendable community volunteer work while their nominator will also receive a £100 Lidl Northern Ireland voucher. There are also a further three runners up prizes of £100 Lidl Northern Ireland vouchers up for grabs.

The #LidlLegends initiative comes off the back of Lidl’s Community Works programme launched in 2014 with the aim of providing supports and resources to local communities across Northern Ireland. To date, Lidl Community Works has engaged with over 750 community groups and donated almost £300,000 to local community groups.

More recently Lidl Northern Ireland has introduced Community Gift Vouchers for customers who are not able to frequent stores at present as they are isolating or cocooning at home. You can now purchase a Lidl Community Gift Voucher up to the value of £200 by calling 0800 008 3016 (lines are open Mon - Fri: 08:00 - 18:00). A voucher will then be posted out to you which can be shared with your #LidlLegend who can use it to purchase your shopping at any Lidl Northern Ireland store.

Lidl Ambassador and Commonwealth and European Championship pommel horse gold medallist, Rhys McClenaghan commented: ‘I’m very proud to be a Lidl Northern Ireland ambassador and be able to support all the work they are doing for our communities during this challenging time, from dedicated shopping hours for the elderly to food appeals and now the #LidlLegends competition’.

Lidl Ambassador and four-time Paralympic gold medal-winning swimmer, Bethany Firth, MBE commented: ‘I think one thing we have learned from all this is that we need to look after both ourselves and each other. Lidl Northern Ireland have played a huge role in supporting our communities for many years now, especially over the last few months. I’m delighted to be a Lidl Northern Ireland ambassador and to promote the #LidlLegends competition recognising the heroes in our communities’
