Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) is available to people in receipt of certain income based benefits. On the 1st April the waiting time for new claimants to access this help will increase from 13 weeks to 39 weeks. This is first of a number of changes that have the potential to impact homeowners in mortgage difficulty.
