Finally a Good Raffle for Northern Ireland

A very limited number of places are available for charities to join new N. Ireland lottery scheme aiming to maximise £1million proceeds limit per charity per year. Expressions of interest sought.

Charities are being invited for an opportunity to join a new innovative fundraising initiative to raise money from society lotteries in Northern Ireland that aims to maximise income to charity while staying within the notoriously difficult regulations. The initiative also aims to support charities running their own games with compliance and best practice benchmarking.

On the back of a research study and feasibility plan conducted by nFundraising last year a new not-for-profit social enterprise called Good Raffle C.I.C. has been established to run a brand new Raffle game for Northern Ireland featuring a range of weekly, monthly and seasonal games returning proceeds to good causes. Like other lottery games running in Great Britain – this new scheme aims to gain widespread participation from the people of Northern Ireland by offering a decent chance of winning a cash prize. Each ticket will be £1 – the legal maximum in Northern Ireland and funds will be raised towards a wide range of causes, with the games funded by raffle players themselves with jackpot prizes topping up to £25,000 [also the legal maximum].

Good Raffle CIC are now inviting charities and clubs to join as priority or general subscribers to benefit from being in at the start of the initiative that hopes one day to maximise the legal proceeds limit of £1million per charity per year.

Good Raffle tickets will be sold online and offline through Good Raffle kiosks and payment can be taken with cash or credit/debit card including contactless payments. Tickets are entered at the point of sale. Equipment and support will be provided by Good Raffle C.I.C. including training and support for fundraisers, volunteers and support groups.

Good Raffle CIC will also support the charity sector in Northern Ireland to run legal and compliant raffles, lotteries and ballots and can provide advice in relation to the Regulations. There are limited places to join the scheme in this phase but also the opportunity to run the same model games with the charity as promoter.

Research by nifundraising has shown a huge number of society and private lotteries are being run against best practice, non-compliant and/or illegally but with the Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator taking a greater role in ensuring charities comply with their legal responsibilities this could be a great opportunity to raise money without the fear of falling foul of quite complex rules.

The same research has demonstrated that society lotteries are a huge source of income for Great British charities but hugely underperforming here.
