eBay auction for unique guitar

To celebrate 15 years of McIlroy Guitars, local craftsman Dermot McIlroy has gifted a unique and valuable handmade guitar for auction in aid of the Belfast-based Sing for Life community choir.

The custom made McIlroy A15 guitar will be available on the online auction site, Ebay, from Monday, November 23, until Wednesday,  December 2.  Simply search for Sing for Life McIlroy guitar on the website  or visit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/301806762391?

The choir is a partnership between Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and the Crescent Arts Centre.  It provides the opportunity for people affected by cancer to meet others in a similar situation in a supportive and friendly environment and to learn new skills in choral singing.

Expert craftsman Dermot McIlroy explained how his wife Colleen (right), who is in the choir, inspired him to make this generous donation.

“In 2012 Colleen was diagnosed with breast cancer.  As part of her recovery, Colleen, my daughter Fiona and sister-in-law Michelle became members of the Sing for Life choir and have gotten so much from it – support, friendship and joy,” he said.

“I felt donating one of my custom A15 guitars for auction would be a great way to say thank you to the choir for all they’ve done for my wife and so many others.”

Liz Atkinson, Head of Care Services, Cancer Focus NI, said: “The Sing for Life choir is extremely grateful for Dermot’s very generous gift.  The proceeds of the auction will help fund the choir’s trip to Wales to sing with the Tenovus choir - the choir that originally inspired their formation – so it means a lot to all of our members."

Keith Acheson (centre), Director of Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast, said: “There’s no question that Dermot’s gift is a unique and highly sought after prize for any keen guitarist or collector.

“This guitar is one-off, custom made piece especially for the Sing For Life choir. It’s made from the finest Brazilian mahogany and Western Red Cedar and also features a special 15th anniversary mother of pearl inlay.  It’s sure to be snapped up so if you’d like to become its proud owner make sure you get your bid in quickly!”
