Border Lives-Information Events

The Border Lives project is a video storytelling initiative, that wishes to capture stories from people that lived in the Border Region during the Troubles. We want establish a website and develop 6 documentary type films, focusing on life in that region.

Tyrone Donegal Partnership has received funding under the Peace III, Theme 1.2 “Acknowledging and Dealing with the Past”, being delivered by the Community Relations Council/Pobal consortium, to deliver a Video Storytelling project focused solely on the Border Region of Northern Ireland. The project is entitled Border Lives.

The project will establish a website and develop 6 documentary type films, focusing on life in the Border Region of Northern Ireland. These films will tell the story of 6 events that occurred within the region during the Troubles. It will capture over 80 different perspectives from people who witnessed these events, detailing the impact that these incidents had on a personal and wider level i.e. family, community, workplace, housing estate, parish, sports club etc and within the context of the Troubles.

This project is particularly interested in those events, stories, areas and people who have not had the opportunity to tell their story yet.

We are running a series of Information Events about the project over April/May and would encourage people to attend to find out more about the initaitve. Project staff will be in attendance and guest speaker Mervyn Smyth from Belfast Exposed Photographic Gallery will also be there to highlight photos from their 30 year archive.
