Be Friendly Bring The Big Lunch to your area

The Big Lunch is just around the corner and with so many shocking statistics around loneliness and isolation could you do a good turn for the people who live near you?

The Big Lunch is a great way to set about connecting people, and so if you are a friendly community minded sort and enjoy a laugh, you could be the perfect person to bring The Big Lunch to your street and help others make good local connections which could well prevent loneliness.

Everyone loves a party its just not everyone who can make it happen, so please be brave and take the frist step, the rest will be easy and you’ll make memories for your community.

big lunch friendship on your street

You can picture it now, you and your neighbours or other local folk, coming out onto the street to gather under a gazebo, collect in front of the community centre or picnic in a  local green space, with dishes to share, a few games planned and a bit of light entertainment.

The local youth have organised street games and made junk art bunting, someone’s brought potato salad, someone else has started up the BBQ and you have made your famous desserts, all that’s left is to get that BBQ lit and hope the weather is kind. You see your Big Lunch shouldn’t be expensive it’s a day of  friendship and an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better.

The main date is Sunday 7 June and we hope you will be one of the millions of people who take part in The Big Lunch 2015 where you live, but if this date doesn’t suit – your pack is undated so chose another day, but do give it a go, start small and watch friendships develop.

.The Big Lunch is very simple – it’s the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project who wondered back in 2009 what would happen if everyone in the UK sat down on one day a year and had lunch with the folk living locally. The idea is funded by Big Lottery and sponsored by ASDA and Halifax.

Free Big Lunch party packs are available to everyone at www.thebiglunch.com and Halifax are offering additional resources on a first come first served basis.
