‘Bag it’ with Gary and Kirstie and fund life-saving research

Northern Ireland locals are being urged to ‘bag it’ with Downtown Radio Breakfast presenters Gary Myles  and Kirstie McMurray at their local British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland Shop during the month of September, to help each shop raise 2,000 bags of unwanted things for Northern Ireland’s biggest stock donation appeal, the Great Big Bag-athon.

Gary and Kirstie are launching the month long stock donation drive to encourage local people to raise vital funds, which will help fund the fight against heart disease.

People from Northern Ireland are being encouraged to fill one bag or more, to add to their local Shop’s, ‘test tube totaliser’, which will show how close the community are to hitting their 2,000 bag target, throughout September.

Michelle McIlwrath, Area Manager for BHF Northern Ireland Shops, says: “We are so excited to have Gary and Kirstie helping us to launch the Great Big Bag-athon. We’d love everyone to join us during September and bring along one bag, or as many as they can to their local shop, of unwanted items, to help us kick start the climb up our ‘test tube totaliser!’

“Every bag you fill is a bag of life-saving research so why not set aside some time to clear out your wardrobe and donate any unwanted clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs and DVDs?”

Kirstie McMurray added: “Your unwanted things will help your local BHF Northern Ireland Shop fight for every heartbeat.

“That’s why we’re so honoured to be launching this vital campaign and I hope that people come down to support their local shop. Every bag that you fill is a bag full of life-saving research, which is helping BHF Northern Ireland find a cure for heart disease.”

This year you can also take on a bag filling challenge for the Great Big Bag-athon. Simply set a target number of bags that you’d like to raise and ask your friends, family, neighbours or work colleagues to pledge you bags. Register online at bhf.org.uk/bagathon to find out more and see yourself in our league table.

The Great Big Bag-athon runs throughout the whole month of September, so you can drop off your bags at any BHF Northern Ireland shop during this time.

Visit bhf.org.uk/bagathon for more information or pop into your local BHF Northern Ireland shop.
