Advice NI offers formal and non-formal training for those working in the advice sector, community & voluntary sector, local authorities, legal & financial institutions who wish to develop their skillset. Our courses include nationally and locally accredited qualifications as well as continued professional development (CPD) training.

Advice NI also offers in-house training and/or workshops at a time, date or location convenient to you. We can amend existing courses to meet your specific needs or fully develop courses based on your training requirements.

Understanding Debt Liability (S)

It will include assets and liabilities when entering or leaving (dissolution/divorce) a marriage or civil partnership, impacts on partners or family members in the event of death, and situations involving unmarried couples. Advisers will understand liability in basic situations and know when to refer. This course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3.

Who Should Attend: 

Wiseradviser courses are appropriate to anyone currently working with vulnerable clients facing financial difficulties.

Location/Time:

Wiseradviser training courses are currently delivered at the Advice NI offices in Belfast. This course will run on 3rd February  from 9.30am to 4.00pm (approximately).

Fees: 

All Wiseradviser courses are FREE to members of the following MAT partner agencies: • Advice NI • Citizens Advice NI • Step Change • Institute of Money Advisers (IMA) However, for accredited courses a £55 charge is applied for those seeking OCNNI accreditation (Note: this is £80 for the Insolvency course, which has 4 modules). Accreditation is currently optional for accredited courses but the paperwork must be completed for MAS accreditation.

CPD Hours:

This course is worth 6 CPD hours.

All attendees MUST book their place online at http://www.wiseradviser.org and NOT using the Advice NI booking form. A notification e-mail will be sent once a booking request is received. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail advising them of their course place.

The State Retirement Pension for Beginners

The State Retirement Pension has seen its most significant reform in two generations and is set to continue to see further changes.

This short and practical overview will help you understand just how the State Pension actually works now and what it might look like in the future.

It will cover:
• The State Pension, working life and national insurance.
• How pensions work for couples, single people and those who have experienced   bereavement or divorce.
• Deferring pensions and working beyond retirement age.
• Retirement planning, tax, savings, private pensions and how they interface with the State Pension.
• The future of the UK State Pension Scheme and idea of a single tier pension.

Who Should Attend?
The course is designed for advisers, anyone interested in personal retirement planning, financial advisers, HR staff, trade union representatives, lawyers and anyone working with older people.

Location/Time/Date:

The course will run on the 10th February 2016. It will be delivered at Advice NI offices in Belfast. The course runs from 9.30am to 1pm.

Fees:

There is a charge of £30 to Advice NI Members, £45 to Voluntary and Community Sector organisations and £65 to Private and Statutory Sector organisations.

CPD Hours:

There are 3 CPD hours available for this course.

Educational/Professional Framework:
This course can be used as evidence towards a range of units in our Advice and Guidance NVQ’s and Legal Advice qualifications including ‘Understanding the Importance of Legislation and Procedures’ (Unit 30). It is also linked to the National Occupational Standards for Legal Advisers including ‘IB19 – First Line Welfare
Rights and Legal Advice’

Time Orders (SP)

This specialist level course will look in detail at the powers of the court to grant Time Orders, and the arguments to support the making of such Orders. It identifies when a Time Order is appropriate.

Who Should Attend:

This two day course will run on  Monday 15th February & Tuesday 16th February 2016 at 09.30am until 4.00pm (approximately) and will held at Advice NI, 1 Rushfield Ave, Belfast BT7 3FP

An Overview of Welfare Reform and the Mitigations Package

Title/Reference: 
An Overview of Welfare Reform and the Mitigations Package (Ref: OWR/FEB/2016)
 
About the Course:
This half day training course provides participants with a dynamic overview of the changes initiated by welfare reform and the mitigations tabled by the Welfare Reform Mitigations Working Group (January 2016). It covers reforms to benefits for children, working age and older people, including means tested benefits, non-means tested benefits, child tax credits and working tax credits, disability benefits including PIP, ESA and Housing Benefit. It also outlines the different elements of Universal Credit and how they might apply to single people, families, people with disabilities and housing costs. Participants will receive comprehensive materials including a detailed summary of what the suggested mitigations packages will be.

It will include detail on  :

  • Supplementary payment proposals for Carers, ESA, DLA and PIP recipients
  • Supplementary payments for those losing all of or part of disability premiums in means tested benefits
  • Supplementary payments for those effected by the benefit cap and the bedroom tax
  • Universal Credit payment frequency, payments of housing costs and sanctions mitigations  
  • Hardship Payments and The Discretionary Support Scheme

Who Should Attend?
The course is aimed at advisers, policy workers, those involved in lobbying and campaigning, community champions, those interested in advice work, and those working in the field to update and refresh their knowledge in this ever changing subject matter.

offices in Belfast. The course runs from 9.30am to 1.00pm.
