Youth Worker

Youth worker working on a project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Hours will be mainly early mornings evenings and week-ends

The Youth worker will responsible to the Project Coordinator and will assist on the delivery, planning, organising and overseeing a Youth  Project designed to redress inequalities and facilitate the personal, social and emotional development of young people between the ages of 8-25 in the wider area of Rathfern Newtownabbey.

 You will also be working with hard to reach young people and need the ability to gain the trust and confidence of young people is an essential skill. The Youth worker is responsible for a number of organisational roles. The job will involve working with children and young people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities, so good communication skills with the ability to adapt your working are important

 

The Newtownabbey Young People’s Directive Project will work within the wider Rathfern communities in order to collectively bring about social change and improve quality of life for young people in the wider Rathfern area. They will work with young people to identify issues, wishes and wants through a designated Youth Project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund to:

  • Bring about and assist transformation of youth provision in the area as needs and issues identified by young people
  • Identify needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities for young people in conjunction with the Youth Forum and Project Coordinator
  • Plan what young people want to achieve, and take appropriate action to enable them to achieve their full potential
  • Aid the project coordinator in identifying training required for volunteers, youth forum and  to assist the project
  • Develop activities and services to improve the lives of young people in conjunction with the Project Coordinator and the Youth Forum
  • Work with the Project Coordinator and youth forum to achieve the outcomes identified in the Youth Project.

The youth worker will act as a daily link between young people and the Project Coordinator It is expected that the project will be directly involved in addressing inequalities, targeting young people perceived to be disadvantaged, for example due to race, economic circumstances or geographical location.
