Board Membership

Trustee Board Members (Voluntary) for the Ulster Society for Promoting the Education of the Deaf and the Blind

The Ulster Society for Promoting the Education of the Deaf and the Blind

N/A
Trustees take overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the Ulster Society for Promoting the Education of the Deaf and the Blind. Trustees are being sought with a range of skills to support the Society in achieving its vision and aims.

The Ulster Society for Promoting the Education of the Deaf and the Blind wishes to appoint additional members (voluntary) to its Trustee Board.

The Ulster Society strives to empower people with sensory loss to achieve their unique potential and optimise their independence, through the provision of excellent education and other supports, in partnership with other quality service providers.

The Society can trace its origins to the early 1830s, when a committee of concerned, philanthropic citizens began to make provision, in a small way, for the education of deaf children. In 1835, a decision was made to appeal to the public for funds, and to include provision for blind children. A school was erected in College Street, Belfast and the Committee and supporting members became known as The Ulster Society for Promoting the Education of the Deaf and the Blind.  In 1961, the school relocated to Jordanstown, and in 2010, a new, purpose-built school opened at the Jordanstown site.

The Trustees appointed will be committed to making a difference in the lives of children and young people with sensory loss in a coordinated, outcome-focused and efficient manner.

Knowledge, skills and experience are being sought in the following areas:

  • Accountancy
  • Human Resources
  • Legal
  • Charities
  • Asset Management
  • Marketing and Public Relations
  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Working with children and young people with sensory losses and / or having a special interest in supporting people with sensory losses
