SENAC, a charity supporting parents of children with SEN require three months temporary cover for our independent Appeals Service. Our Appeals Advisor advises and guides parents through the SEN appeal process.

The Special Educational Needs Advice Centre (SENAC) is a regional charity providing confidential, independent SEN advice and advocacy for parents and their children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN) in Northern Ireland up to the age of 19 years. For over twenty years the charity has been supporting and advising parents on the statutory SEN system to access education support for children. SENAC provides a range of services including an Advice Line, Advocacy and Appeal services and Community workshops.

SENAC's Tribunal Support and Representation Service advises and supports parents appealing Education Authority decisions to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST). We require temporary cover for this service from June-August

As an Appeals Advisor you will work closely with the parents to make a difference to their child's educational opportunities. For many parents, taking an appeal can be a daunting process. SENAC's service supports and guides parents through that process.

Hours and working pattern are flexible and can be discussed. This post is suitable for home working but attending meetings in SENAC's office and attendance at a Tribunal Hearing may also be required.

Salary: £17.65 per hour.

Role Description: To provide SEN Appeal advice, support and Hearing representation for parents appealing to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST).

Personnel Specification includes:

Hold a degree, or diploma in Law. 

Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience providing advocacy or legal advice in an employed capacity.

Experience of providing representation in Tribunal Hearings.

Experience of applying the current legislation and regulations governing special educational needs.
