Who are we? NUS-USI (National Union of Students – Union of Students in Ireland) was established in 1972 under a unique arrangement where both the British and Irish national student unions respectively, jointly organised in Northern Ireland.

We represent the interests of around 200,000 students and campaign on their behalf in many different fields such as student hardship, health, prejudice and accommodation. Collaborating with 11 amazing member students’ unions, we provide a range of services and support for them. Working within a small team in Belfast, backed up by over 220 creative USI and NUS colleagues across the island of Ireland you will be working together every day to support elected student leaders - as they make change in the world and improve the lives of students - we help make it happen!

We have an extremely successful record in supporting and developing the capacity of elected student officers and students’ unions, a key part of our mission to champion and build strong students’ unions as well as promoting, defending and extending the rights of students studying in HE, FE or for an apprenticeship. Who you are

  • You will be able to take a lead role in developing NUS-USI’s membership engagement, union development and campaign work, encouraging students to take the lead and make changes
  • You will be experienced in designing, delivering and implementing learning and development strategies to empower student leaders and volunteers
  • You will have a good knowledge of and experience in the political landscape of Northern Ireland and will be able to liaise with government and sector stakeholders – enhancing the student voice in Northern Ireland
  • You will be passionate, flexible, committed and excited by the prospect of working with student leaders and supporting them to make student lives better in Northern Ireland.
