Matthew O’Toole MLA is seeking a motivated individual to support in policy research and communications. In addition to supporting on general Assembly business, the individual will specifically work on Brexit and finance policy.

Matthew O’Toole MLA is seeking a motivated individual to support in policy research and communications. In addition to supporting on general Assembly business, the individual will specifically work on Brexit and finance policy.

 

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills, be able to work independently, and driven to provide robust policy advice and creative communications.

 

 

LOCATION                      Stormont / South Belfast

START DATE                  ASAP Following appointment

WORKING PATTERN     Up to 37 hours per week, flexible working considered.

 

Starting salary: £22,750 PA (Grade 3; pro-rated if working part-time)

 

 

Responsibilities to include:

 

  • Research for all aspects of member’s Assembly business, production of concise briefing documents
  • Drafting of Assembly Questions
  • Liaising with Assembly & Committee staff on Committee business and events
  • Policy briefing across assembly business, with specific focus on Brexit and finance issues
  • Monitoring media and social media in order to identify relevant coverage/ emerging issues
  • Creating communications material, with a particular focus on digital content
  • Attending & taking minutes of meetings as required
  • Supporting on case work in the South Belfast constituency
  • Occasional constituency casework in support of the lead caseworker

 

 

Person specification (essential criteria):

 

  • Third level degree or higher OR 3 years relevant experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of devolved government structures and stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of local and international politics, specifically Brexit and trade policy
  • Experienced in digital communications, including content production and social media campaigning
  • Good IT skills including working with MS Excel and Access. Familiarity with design packages and web content management desirable
  • Good organisation skills, capable of dealing with heavy workloads and tight deadlines
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Willingness to undertake outside of office hours occasionally

 

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the development of legislation
  • Experience in casework
  • Video editing skills
