Project Worker (ASPIRE)

Aspire works with marginalised young men (aged 16-30), who are risk of becoming involved or further involved in criminality. It aims to prevent and reduce offending and enable young men to develop their full capacity and to resist negative influences.

ROLE

CRJI are working together with NIACRO, PBNI, Barnardos and NIA to deliver the Aspire Project; this programmes aims to promote desistance and safer communities whilst reducing marginalisation and isolation. The Aspire Project aims to support vulnerable young men (aged 16-30 years), who may be experiencing or at risk of experiencing: criminality, homelessness, substance misuse/ addictions, poor mental health, issues within the community and/ or who are not in employment, education or training (NEET). The post holder will provide direct support in a mentoring capacity to vulnerable young men (aged 16-30 years).

INFORMATION ABOUT THE POST

Salary: £23,000

Hours: Full time (this will include evening and weekend work)

Duration: Until March 2021 (extension subject to funding)

Annual Leave: 28 days per year

Location: Belfast

Pension: CRJI operates a NEST Pension Scheme with a 3% employer contribution.

Travel: Appropriate travel allowance is paid for mileage undertaken in connection with work.

Access NI: This post requires that a check must be carried out under the requirements of ACCESS NI enhanced disclosure. This will involve a full criminal records check which will show spent and unspent convictions, cautions, cases pending or any other relevant information.

Note: A waiting list (valid for 12 months) will be drawn up from the interviews for any similar vacancies that may arise in the future.

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• At least 1 years experience of supporting disadvantaged people with multiple barriers and complex needs

• Experience of working with agencies /employers involved in providing services and opportunities to support integration and social inclusion

• A certificate level qualification, (minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent) in a relevant discipline e.g. criminology, criminal justice, restorative practices, etc.

• Computer literate and competent in using Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, etc.)

• The capacity to maintain concise and accurate records

• Experience of working in an interagency setting and as part of a team

• Full driving license and access to a car, with business insurance

 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

• At least 1 years experience of providing support to people involved in the criminal justice system

• Familiar with the work of CRJI and trained in restorative practices

• An awareness of issues affecting those in the transition from custody to community

• Experience of working in partnership with others to deliver services

• Good interpersonal presentation, written and communication skills
