The Men's Advisory Project (MAP)

The Men's Advisory Project (MAP) has been a leading organisation in Northern Ireland, supporting male victims of domestic abuse for over 27 years. We are committed to creating meaningful change in the lives of individuals and families affected by abuse.
Our latest initiative aims to provide dedicated support to boys aged 13-17 who have experienced domestic abuse, offering a safe space for counselling, creative and group engagement, and education about healthy relationships. Our aim is to support boys to make sense of the abuse they have faced and empower them to go on to live lives free from abuse.
This role is currently funded for 3 years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Coordination and delivery: Oversee all aspects of the Boys Support Initiative, ensuring effective and impactful delivery of the project in Belfast and Derry.
- Creative Space Facilitation: Plan and manage monthly creative sessions for boys, providing a safe space to explore topics such as healthy relationships, domestic abuse, overcoming shame and fear, exploring masculinity, addressing isolation and encouraging emotional well-being in boys who have faced abuse..
- Participant Engagement: Recruit and build trusting relationships with boys who have faced domestic abuse, acting as the main point of contact for boys and their throughout the program.
- Collaboration: Work closely with facilitators, volunteers, families, and the MAP team to support project activities and outcomes.
- Social Media & Reporting: Develop engaging project-related social media content, track progress, and compile reports to demonstrate impact.
- Administrative Duties: Arrange external facilitators, handle travel and logistical arrangements, and oversee project evaluations.
About You:
- Experience in working with young people, particularly boys aged 13-17, in a supportive or educational capacity.
- A background in youth work, counselling, social work, or a similar field is preferred.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to connect with young people and their families.
- Understanding of the challenges young people face, particularly around domestic abuse, masculinity, and healthy relationships.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for fostering positive change in the lives of young people.
- Willingness to travel within Northern Ireland as required.
Essential:
- Someone truly interested in focussing on, and learning from, the experiences of boys who have faced domestic abuse.
- Someone who wants to relate to and encourage boys.
- Drive to understand boys who have faced trauma and work alongside them to encourage them
- Experience in creating spaces which are encouraging and possess a flexibility in your approach
- Public speaking experience
- Experience in working with and delivering support to young people
- Knowledge in the online and offline issues facing boys.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures and a dedication to ongoing risk analysis.
- A highly organised method of working and an ability to report monthly
