
The Funding and Tenders Officer plays a pivotal role in identifying, securing, and managing funding opportunities from a range of sources including governmental bodies, grant-making bodies, private organisations, and European programmes such as the PeacePlus. The postholder will coordinate the end-to-end application process — from identification of potential funders and tender opportunities and research and proposal writing through to contract management, compliance, financial tracking, and reporting. The officer will also act as an advisor to internal teams on funding opportunities and submission processes
Key Responsibilities
Research and Identification of Funding Opportunities
• Proactively monitor relevant funding sources including regional and national
government programmes, European funding bodies, philanthropic
foundations, and private sector organisations.
• Maintain a comprehensive calendar of deadlines and submission
requirements.
• Analyse opportunities to assess their alignment with organisational strategic
priorities and capacity.
Proposal and Tender Development
• Write and coordinate high-quality funding proposals, proposition plans and tender submissions.
• Work with internal teams to gather necessary data, including evidence of need, budgets, work plans, and performance indicators.
• Ensure all proposals meet funder requirements, both technically and strategically.
• Coordinate review and approval of draft submissions with internal stakeholders.
• Submit finalised applications and act as first point of contact for the organisation.
Contract and Grant Management
• Oversee the implementation of successful bids, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
• Develop and manage grant/tender reporting schedules, including narrative and financial reports.
• Work alongside internal stakeholders to monitor and report project performance against milestones and KPIs.
Financial Monitoring and Reporting
• Collaborate with finance colleagues to prepare budgets and financial reports for funders.
• Work with project leads to ensure rack expenditure is tracked and ensure proper financial controls and documentation are maintained.
• Identify and flag risks related to budget or funder compliance. Stakeholder Relationship Management
• Serve as the primary liaison with funding agencies, grant officers, and tendering bodies.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships to enhance future funding prospects.
• Represent the organisation at relevant meetings, conferences, and networking events.
Internal Support and Capacity Building
• Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues on funding/tender processes.
• Share best practices and updates on trends in grant funding and procurement.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Proven experience in grant writing, tender submission, or funding coordination (3+ years preferred).
• Demonstrated success in securing public or private funding. Skills and Competencies
• Strong research and analytical skills to identify and evaluate new funding opportunities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver persuasive and clear proposals.
• Proficient in financial planning and budget management.
• Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Sound knowledge of funding procedures, including EU, UK government, or institutional donor processes.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and experience with funding databases or CRM/grant management systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams.
Desirable
• Experience working in the charity/ voluntary sector.
• Familiarity with procurement law and contracting principles.
• Project Management Certification.
• Knowledge of policy or regulatory environments in relevant sectors (e.g. education, health, innovation).
