To be an active member of the General Assembly’s staff team, contributing to the effective administration of its functions and assisting in the development of strategies and plans for the delivery of its agreed objective in a manner of keeping with Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Under the direction of the General Council and its Support Services Committee to assist with the implementation of decisions of the General Assembly relevant to the General Council and to the Council for Social Witness and to carry forward their delegated responsibilities.

To prepare accounts, budgets and financial reports for all activities of the Council for Social Witness.

Under the direction of the Secretary of the Council for Social Witness to contribute to the Council’s strategic development, its financial systems and procedures ensuring activities and functions are aligned with the Council’s Mission.

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Qualifications and Knowledge

  •  A qualified member of a recognised professional accountancy body

 Relevant Experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience of preparing year-end and management accounts
  • At least 2 years’ experience of preparing budgets and forecasts in conjunction with line management
  • At least 2 years’ experience and a high level of competence in the use of Microsoft products and in particular Excel and Word
  • At least two years’ experience in the use of computerised accounting systems (e.g. Sage, Quickbooks, Xero, etc.)
  • Experience of presenting financial information at meetings
  • Experience of drafting financial procedures, implementation and training of staff
  • Experience of overseeing and directing the work of finance related staff

Special Circumstances

  •  Evidence of personal Christian faith in practice and expression, normally demonstrated by active membership of a Christian congregation (The essential nature of this post requires that the successful candidate be a Christian as provided for under excepted occupations in the Fair Employment Treatment (NI) Order 1998)
  •    Willingness to support and work within the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
  •    Able to work additional and flexible hours as required to meet reporting deadlines.
