COME JOIN OUR TEAM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SPECIALISTS. North Down & Ards Women's Aid provides refuge, support and advice to women and their children who have experienced or are still experiencing the effects of physical, mental or sexual abuse.

We are recruiting a FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER for a 37 hour per week post.  The 37 hour per week post is funded by SE Trust and will be subject to continued funding.   This post will involve flexible working to facilitate the needs of the projects.  The hours will include days, evenings and weekends (by rota). 

 

AIM OF POST

 

The successful candidate will work with the project teams to provide support and information to children young people and mothers.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • To be aware of the needs of children/young people and mothers in the projects and work as part of a team to ensure that these needs are met.

  • To be aware of, and to promote, the principles underpinning children’s rights and parental responsibilities.

  • To work as part of a team with direction to maintain recreational and supported play facilities and services for children/young people and mothers in refuge, advice centre and community settings.

  • To work as part of a team to identify, assess and respond to the physical, psychological, emotional, social and educational needs of all the children/young people and mothers.

  • To liaise and advocate on behalf of children/young people and mothers with external agencies.  This may involve accompanying them to appointments.

  • Ensure that all relevant administrative tasks are completed and reviewed appropriately.

  • To assist in the provision of the 24-hour refuge On-Call cover through our established rota systems.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • A recognised relevant qualification at a minimum of NVQ level 3 (or equivalent).

  • A minimum of 1 years’ recent experience in supporting children and young people.

Salary: £17,333 per annumThe 37 hour per week post is funded by SE Trust and will be subject to continued funding.  

Due to the level of contact with vulnerable women and children, the lawful recruitment of females for this post falls within the exemption stated in Article 10 (2e) of the Sex Discrimination (N.I.) Order 1976. 

In order to comply with the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007, North Down & Ards Women’s Aid are required to explore the successful candidate’s suitability to work with vulnerable adults and children through ACCESS NI pre-employment screening.
