Editorial Assistant

Child Care in Practice is a multi-disciplinary journal that was launched by a group of professionals from the statutory and voluntary child care sectors in 1994.  The aim of the journal is to advance education and promote quality child care practice through the publication of practice and research.  The Child Care in Practice Group, who currently publishes the journal, is a company limited by guarantee (no. 31209) and a charity recognised by the Inland Revenue (ref. No.R12410).  It is located within the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work, Queen’s University Belfast, at 6 College Park. Given the current situation with COVID-19, the post will involve working from home for the foreseeable future. The Child Care in Practice Journal has a publishing agreement with Routledge/Taylor & Francis.

 

We are looking to appoint an Editorial Assistant to undertake duties related to the production of the Child Care in Practice Journal and the development of the Child Care in Practice Group as a whole. This is a part-time position at 28 hours per week, hours negotiable.

 

Essential Criteria:

1.        Degree qualification, preferably in the social sciences or other relevant discipline.

2.       Experience of administration in an office environment.

3.       High level of computer literacy.

4.       Evidence of effective time management.

5.       Evidence of the ability to work both as part of a team and on one’s own initiative.

6.       An understanding of financial management procedures.

7.       Excellent interpersonal skills.

8.       Excellent oral and written communication skills.

9.       Excellent presentation skills.

10.    Ability to travel throughout Northern Ireland.

 

Desirable criteria:

1.        Experience in publishing.

2.       Experience of academic writing.

3.       Knowledge of the multi-disciplinary child care field.

4.       Experience of working in partnership with other organisations.

5.       Experience of event management.

 

Salary: £23,866 (£19093 pro-rata, 28 hours per week; NJC scale point 26).    Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
