Dog Wellbeing Technician (P/T)
Guide Dogs Northern Ireland

This is achieved through carrying out husbandry duties in order to provide for the wellbeing of dogs whilst accommodated at a Guide Dogs site. Our technicians have an essential role to ensure first-class levels of dog wellbeing and support, working with advisors, regional operations volunteer officers, Guide Dog Mobility Specialists & Guide Dog Trainers to maintain the wellbeing levels required.
The successful candidate will spend the first one or two weeks in Belfast and will then travel to Forfar (Scotland) for two weeks to complete their induction. Accommodation/travel/sustenance will be covered by the organisation.
This role is Monday to Friday on a rota basis, 25 hours per week, with 26 days paid holiday (excluding bank holidays) per year pro-rata. Candidate profile
To be able to fulfil this role, and provide help to those with sight loss, the skills and experience we are looking for in a potential candidate include;
Essential
- 2 ‘A’ Levels or equivalent, one of which must be in an area of biological or social sciences, or equivalent. qualifications or relevant experience
- Proven experience working with dogs within a professional environment
- Knowledge of the core principles of animal care and behavior
- Willingness and ability to deliver the highest standards of dog care, with a desire to go over and above to ensure the very best service at all times
- Experience of coaching and mentoring
- Experience of supporting a service
Desirable
- Dog-related qualification
- Experience working with volunteers
