Action Ability aims to promote inclusion of local disabled people (physical, learning or sensory disability) into the social, economic and cultural life of the community of West Belfast.
Purpose of Post
The Disability Advocate will deliver an independent advocacy service to service users/carers/parents by empowering people to express their views, wishes and choices. The Advocate will ensure that service users are able to remain as involved as possible in all decisions which affect their lives.
Main Responsibilities
Service user work
The Advocate will:
- Build and maintain relationships with a case load of service users, based on mutual respect, dignity and honesty.
- Enable service users to represent themselves, where possible, or speak up on their behalf.
- Empower and involve service users as much as possible in decisions that affect them.
- Liaise with Statutory organisations and voluntary groups as directed by the service user.
- Facilitate group self advocacy.
- Achieve positive outcomes for service users or redirect appropriately.
