Scoil na Fuiseoige provides a facility for the cultural, recreational and educational needs of the community of the Colin area, and particularly for the Irish language community.

Aims of Ionad/Scoil na Fuiseoige

The aim is to provide a facility for the cultural, recreational and educational needs of the community of the Colin area, and particularly for the Irish language community.

We provide and promote:-

  • high quality early years provision;
  • educational and social activities for children from birth to 15 years;
  • education and support programmes for parents and individuals from the community;
  • social economy activity within the building;
  • cultural activities through dance, drama and music;
  • a drop-in facility and a gateway to other local services;
  • opening up the Irish Language and Culture to all sections of the community and to promote equal participation.

 

Purpose of role

  1. To maximise community use of Ionad na Fuiseoige facilities and programmes.
  2. Strengthen and coordinate collaborations with other Irish language organisations and projects across the Urban Village areas in Belfast – Derry/Londonderry.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. To maximise community use of Ionad na Fuiseoige facilities and programmes.
  1. Identify and implement learning opportunities for all the users of the Ionad.
  2. To develop a programme of Irish Language classes and learning opportunities.
  3. To develop and maximise the use of the Library.
  4. To ensure the provision of a welcoming, safe, high quality, and stimulating social space.
  5. To supervise volunteers.

 

  1. Strengthen and coordinate collaborations with other Irish language organisations and projectsacross Urban Village areas in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry.
  1. To organise and facilitate visits to and from other groups.
  2. To co-ordinate joint initiatives and activities to enhance cross-community linkages and improve good relations.
  3. To enhance wider public awareness of, and cross-community engagement in,  the Irish Language, Cultural and Heritage activities and linkages across Urban Village areas .
  4. to work collaboratively with Development Worker in the Turas project in East Belfast to strengthen links between both centres.

 

  1. Ensure compliance with statutory and good practice requirements and  contribute to the development  and implementation of Centre policies and procedures which include:
  • Safe Guarding;
  • Health and Safety;
  • Staff code of Conduct and Confidentiality policies;
  • Irish Language ethos;
  • Equal Opportunities/inclusion ;
  • Discipline and complaints ;
  • The protection of the environment, particularly with regard to energy conservation and resource management;
  • All other relevant policies as required.

 

  1. Project Management
  1. To maintain a database of all the users of the programme.
  2. To ensure all activities of the programme have adequate record-keeping systems to enable monitoring and evaluation reports.
  3. To promote the project through the social media accounts of the Organisation, in line with social media policy.

 

  1. Staff Responsibilities
  1. To attend regular staff meetings and team meetings.
  2. To attend supervision and appraisal meetings andtraining as required.
  3. Contributing to team events and working in partnership with other staff, working towards the values and overall objectives of the Organisation.
  4. Commitment to personal learning and development especially in areas of language and administration.
  5. To undertake any other reasonable duties and demonstrate an understanding and flexibility as may be required by the Organisation to ensure an excellent level of service delivery at all times.
